Artist Statement

i don’t know if you’re listening but i want you to hear this is a tabletop sculptural installation depicting the relationships between everyday objects and the users. Ezzam was inspired by 'pantang / taboos' that he grew up within a Malay household, where his mum does not allow anyone to keep chipped or cracked dinnerwares at home. He was told that if they continue to keep and use these imperfect objects, they might ward off good wealth. There is always a story behind everything, within every object, they don’t just appear. By using familiar ready-made objects for this sculptural presentation, Ezzam would like to invite the audience that stumble upon this artwork to remember the last dialogues and conversations they had. Ezzam hopes that the ready-mades would trigger memorable episodes from the past in relation to the space, object, functions, and nostalgia.
